More Practical Problems

Natural Assets Codes

In previous posts we have displayed images of the Rosny Hill Nature Recreation Area and discussed proposals for tourist development there.

We mentioned biodiversity and threatened species. These should be protected and indeed, according to Clarence City Council, the Hill is classified as a Biodiversity Protection Area. This is shown in the following extract of a letter to our Network from Council:

We think that it is a practical problem that such classification exists, but the necessary infrastructure for  102 room accommodations, conference centre, swimming pool, restaurant, car parking, service facilities and infrastructure to provide all of these  are even THOUGHT to be compatible with a high risk Biodiversity Protection Area.

Rosny Rocks

Well, the residents think that. But the residents have frequent encounters with Rosny Rocks - aka  - the rocks of Rosny.

A small gardening project can lead to gouging out a great number:

Last year, an explosives specialist was required in Bastick Street for more than 2 days in order to put in one small domestic driveway. What is in store for residents during construction?

So.... if planning approval is given: are we in for:
  1. Loss of biodiversity
  2. Loss of access for recreation
  3. Loss of amenity and a peaceful environment during construction and if it becomes operational
  4. Loss of privacy by being overlooked by a major development
  5. Increased traffic hazards in the Rosny area, which is used not just by residents but many who use the excellent schools and other community facilities.
