Know Your Hill : 20th January 2018

It is fitting that this post is being written on Australia Day, a day when many of us reflect on our Democracy and right to be heard.
Last Saturday, 20th January 2018, over one hundred people attended an event, organised by the Rosny Hill Friends Network, at Rosny Lookout.
Rosalie Woodruff  (member for Franklin)  David O'Byrne and Allison Standish (Franklin candidates at the next state election) and the Honorable Julie Collins MHR, all attended.
It was disappointing that there were no local government representatives present nor were any members of the Hodgman government there.
Network members realise that politicians lead demanding lives but the transfer of public land into private hands is an issue that demands deep concern. It does not matter whether such transfer is by sale or lease. Members of the public are concerned about public property.

People arrived before the 4:00 pm start
A chance to admire the spectacular view and have an ice - cream

There was much discussion.

People examined the contemporary and historical information. A huge thanks to the Bellerive Historical Society for their assistance
Historically, Rosny Hill has always been an island of vegetation
There were free drinks and a BBQ which were sponsored by Rosalie Woodruff.

The hazard tape was sourced from Planning Matters Alliance Tasmania: https://www.planningmatterstas.org.au
Rosny Hill Friends Network is one affiliate of this alliance. There are fifty-six other groups in Tasmania that share our concerns.

There was time for rest and relaxation.
Useful Rosny Hill rocks.
Even the dogs had a good day out.

Peter Edwards, Convenor of the Network addressed the crowd about our Position Paper, which can be obtained by emailing  rosnyhillfiends210@gmail.com

There was then a question and answer session. One concerned resident sought clarification about the demands on local government Councillors under the Tasmanian Planning Laws.
Here is the crowd listening to Rosalie Woodruff, who answered the question and posted this picture on Facebook.

We have a video of her answer. Find it on our Facebook page at the link below

It is time for ACTION

A new development application for the top of Rosny Hill is expected in the next month. A state election is expected in the next two months. New planning laws are looming. The time for action is NOW.

What will be the fate of this beautiful reserve. Sketches and photographs going back to the start of European settlement show it as a hilltop 'green island', a place for recreation which we know actually means Re - Creation.

Here is an undated sketch by Thomas Evans Chapman (1788-1864) showing Rosny Hill in the background. https://stors.tas.gov.au/AUTAS001124061342w800

Is 2018 the year that this this clean, green, serene community asset will be disrupted and put under the control of a lessee? This is a reasonable and genuine community concern. Come join us. Contribute on the Rosny Hill Fiends Network facebook page.
